Standard   5.3    Student Goals

Does the teacher engage students in school, career, and personal goal setting in ways that promote their success?

I frequently speak to students about their future goals.  I give them advice in regards to types of colleges, career paths, and who they need to speak to in order to attain more information.  I am always available after school for those who would like to talk further about their future goals.

Because I am preparing my students for the “real” world, I take this standard very seriously.  Monthly, I meet with individual students to establish goals for the next month.  We monitor this progress weekly to make sure we can reach these goals.  If we need to adjust them, we do.

Part of this goal setting process involves using the individual and class grading grids.  I also provide letter of recommendation for my Level III students who wish to become employed or enter Midlands Technical College.  I have been actively involved in preparing the Level III students for their entry into the real world by helping them develop a portfolio of reference documents for future employment use.
