Standard 6.2              Engage Parents as Partners

Are parents engaged as partners in their child’s education in appropriate ways?

At the beginning of the academic year, I give every student a course syllabus.  The syllabus identifies my contact information, the course description, requirements, objectives, outline of topics to be covered, grading procedures, materials needed, classroom rules and procedures, consequences for breaking the rules, and a section that the student has their parent/guardian sign. This signature lets me know that they have gone over the course syllabus with their child and understand what is expected from their child in class.  This is the first homework grade that the students receive.

I also set up senior meeting with parents and the student to ensure there is active communication regarding where the senior stands with graduation.

I also had several parents serve as chaperones on the Virtual Enterprise trade fair trip to San Francisco California.

This year, 2007-2008, I have met with the parent(s) of 7 students to go over a student evaluation letting the parent(s) know how their student is progressing in the program.
