Standard 6.1              Effective Communication

                                    with Parents

Does the teacher engage in effective and frequent communication with parents?

I send home a detailed syllabus at the beginning of the semester that shows the class objectives and procedures.  It gives the parents the information needed to contact me.  It also gives the parents a chance to give me the information necessary to reach them.  I also meet with one third of our programs parents in order to update them on their student’s progress.

I keep a log of parent contacts (ex. phone calls, letters home, e-mails, etc) in order to track the amount of positive and negative responses received.  Most of my patent contacts have been extremely positive.  They are very concerned about their child's work and want to be kept up-to-date on their progress.  This is evidenced by the attached phone log and e-mail contacts.
