Head Coach
Barry Mizzell

Coach Mizzell) Coach Mizzell graduated from Mims Academy in 1982 and attended the Baptist College at Charleston on a baseball scholarship. He graduated in 1986 with a B.S. in Physical Education. From 1986 through 1990, he coached baseball, basketball and football at Orangeburg Preparatory School, where he won the 1989 State Championship in baseball. For the last 14 years, Coach Mizzell served as head baseball coach at Richland Northeast. His teams won region championships in baseball in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2004. In 2000, the Cavaliers won the lower state and advanced to the State finals. In 2001, the Cavaliers won the 4A State Championship. After 16 seasons, Coach Mizzell’s overall coaching record stands at 265-146. Coach Mizzell was named the South Carolina Coach of the Year in 1995. He was selected as Head Coach for the 2006 North/South All-Star Game. Coach Mizzell teaches in the Physical Education Department at Blythewood. He also serves as assistant Head Coach and running back coach for the football team. He and his wife Deanna have two children, Chelsea, 14 and Chaz, 12.

Assistant Coach
Bart Owens Coach Owens graduated from Lake City High School in Lake City, South Carolina. He then attended the University of South Carolina where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. Coach Owens served as an assistant baseball coach at Richland Northeast High School from 2001-2005. He also served as a football coach for the Cavaliers. In the summer and fall, Coach Owens coaches traveling teams. In 2004-2005, Coach Owens coached for the Diamond Devils AAU baseball team. He is currently coaching with the Palmetto Sand Gnats baseball team.

Assistant Coach
Ryan Johnson
(email Coach Johnson) Coach Johnson grew up in Claymont, Delaware where he graduated from Brandywine High School. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned a B.A. in History (1996) and an M.A.T. in Social Studies (1998). From 1999-2001, Coach Johnson served as the junior varsity baseball coach and varsity assistant coach at Fairfield Central during which time the team qualified for the playoffs for the first time in school history. From 2002-2005, Coach Johnson served as varsity assistant coach at Lower Richland High School. He also served as head B-Team football coach from 2001-2003. At Blythewood, Coach Johnson teaches in the Social Studies Department and serves as the Sports Information Director for the Blythewood Bengals Football Team. He will coach the junior varsity baseball squad and assist with the varsity team. In his free time, Coach Johnson enjoys working for the University of South Carolina as the NCAA Statistician for Gamecock football and basketball. He also serves as the official statistician for the annual Chick-Fil-A Classic Basketball Tournament at Richland Northeast High School. He and his wife Christie have a daughter, Riley (3).
