Rifle Team
The Rifle Team at Blythewood High School was started in the 2006-2007 school year. The Rifle Team participates in the Greater Midlands High School Drill League Competitions, which are held at various local high schools. Practices are held 3 days a week after school during the 1st semester. (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 4:00-5:30 p.m.). There are 7 Rifle Team members, although there are only 5 slots per team at meets. This instills a little friendly competition at practice for the cadets to secure a spot on the shooting team, this way everyone gets a chance to compete. There are 3 shooting positions: standing, kneeling, and prone. Cadets take aim at targets that are placed 10 meters from the firing line, using Daisy Air Rifles. The overall target consists of ten targets. Each target is worth ten points with the overall target being worth 100 points. Each shooting position has its own overall target, so each individual shooter can shoot a possible 300 points. The Rifle Team is a great way to improve individual abilities while enjoying a team atmosphere.
